Privacy & your data
The checker processes policy entries and letter drafts in the browser tab. It does not upload them or save them to a database or browser storage. Your insurer names, policy amounts and letter text are never sent to this site’s servers or to anyone else.
Refresh or closing the tool clears your working session. Downloads and copied text remain on your device. Use “Clear all my entries” in the tool’s privacy dialog to clear a session.
What we measure
CoverGuide counts how its pages are used, so we can tell which guidance people actually reach. The counting is done by this site itself, not by Google Analytics or any other outside advertising or analytics company, and nothing about you is shared with one.
For each page view we record the page address, the website you arrived from, your country, whether you are on a phone or a computer, and whether you opened an outside link, called an office or started a letter. We do not record what you type.
We set no cookies and store nothing in your browser. To tell repeat visits apart we convert your IP address into a scrambled code using a secret key and the current date, and store only that code. The date is part of the scramble, so the codes change every night and cannot be matched up across days or traced back to your IP address. Your IP address itself is never stored.
If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, the counting does not run at all.
The newsletter
Signing up is optional and separate from the tools. The checker works without it, and nothing you type into the checker is attached to a newsletter signup.
If you sign up we store your name, your email address, and your mobile number if you choose to give one. We use them to send the newsletter and occasional marketing, by email and by SMS if you gave a number. We do not sell or share them, and they are not used to target advertising.
We also store the exact wording you agreed to and the date you agreed, because the law requires us to be able to show that you opted in.
We send a confirmation email first and add you only once you click the link in it. Until then we send you nothing. Every message carries an unsubscribe link, which takes effect immediately and without explanation.
You may ask at any time what we hold about you, have it corrected, or have it deleted. Reply to any message we send you, or use the unsubscribe link to stop everything at once. Unsubscribing keeps a record that you were once subscribed and then withdrew, so we can prove we stopped when you asked.
Paid listings
Any paid listing in the complaints directory is labelled as one and appears below the statutory ombuds and regulators, never above them. Those offices are free to use, we are not paid for sending you to them, and paid placement cannot change their order. Where a paid listing is shown we count how often it is seen and clicked, which is how it is billed.
Contact links open your phone, email app, or an external website. CoverGuide does not send complaints. External services have their own privacy practices; the hosting provider may process ordinary access logs.
